When Merapi Disaster Happened

November, 5th was the climax of Merapi disaster in 2010. When it is happened, only I, my brother, and my sister were in my home.

November 4th. After going home, I was watching the TV when my brother came and told me that my neighbour had got ready to evacuate. It made me panic but I decided to be calm.

I was so sleepy so I fell asleep. But I was disturbed when I heard my window quaked. It was earthquake! Yes, it was volcanic earthquake from Merapi.

Night came and the quake felt greater. I, my brother, and my sister watched news about Merapi on TV. Suddenly, someone knocked the door. She was  my neighbour. She told me that she wanted to go to Bantul. She was afraid in Sleman because of  Merapi disaster effects. She also told me that almost all of my neighbours had gone too.

Actually, I felt so afraid and I did not know what I must do. So I decided to let the night flowed as usual. I had my brother and my sister go to bed. I forced myself to sleep but I could not.

About 00.30 I heard something fell on the roofs. I woke up my brother and went to outside my home. Obviously that was pebbles rain from Merapi. I looked around my home and I had already realized that no one again.

Finally I decided to go to my cousin’s home in Jogja with my brother and my sister. I was afraid if something dangerous occurred. We rode motorcycles and used coats because of pebbles and water rain. Fortunately the ways that we passed was so lively because of refugees so that we were not afraid rode motorcycle in midnight.

Explanation About Drought

A drought is defined as "a period of abnormally dry weather sufficiently prolonged for the lack of water to cause serious hydrologic imbalance in the affected area." -Glossary of Meteorology (1959).
In easier to understand terms, a drought is a period of unusually persistant dry weather that persists long enough to cause serious problems such as crop damage and/or water supply shortages. The severity of the drought depends upon the degree of moisture deficiency, the duration, and the size of the affected area.
There are actually four different ways that drought can be defined.
Meteorological-a measure of departure of precipitation from normal. Due to climatic differences, what might be considered a drought in one location of the country may not be a drought in another location.
Agricultural-refers to a situation where the amount of moisture in the soil no longer meets the needs of a particular crop.
Hydrological-occurs when surface and subsurface water supplies are below normal.
Socioeconomic-refers to the situation that occurs when physical water shortages begin to affect people.
Lack of rainfall for an extended period of time can bring farmers and metropolitan areas to their knees. It does not take very long; in some locations of the country, a few rain-free weeks can spread panic and affect crops. Before long, we are told to stop washing our cars, cease watering the grass, and take other water conservation steps. In this situation, sunny weather is not always the best weather.
Here in the desert Southwest, weeks without rain are not uncommon. However, when the weeks turn to months, serious problems can arise. Because of the fact that much of our drinking water comes from snowmelt, a dry winter can have serious implications in terms of how much water is available for the following summer season. Most locations have sufficient water reservoirs to make it through one dry winter. The real problem becomes back to back dry winter seasons, similar to what is occurring during the 1998-2000 period of time. With two significantly below-normal precipitation winter seasons, reservoirs are becoming low and the fire danger rises as the forests dry out. However, summer rains can alleviate the situation, as the monsoon season typically develops by July.
The Dust Bowl days of the 1930's affected 50,000,000 acres of land, rendering farmers helpless. In the 1950's, the Great Plains suffered a severe water shortage when several years went by with rainfall well below normal. Crop yields failed and the water supply fell. California suffered a severe drought around 1970. Rainfall was below normal for 1 1/2 years, and by the time September 1970 arrived, the fire potential was extremely high and dangerous. Temperatures rose to near the century mark and fires broke out. Losses were in the tens of millions of dollars.
The worst drought in 50 years affected at least 35 states during the long hot summer of 1988. In some areas the lack of rainfall dated back to 1984. In 1988, rainfall totals over the Midwest, Northern Plains, and the Rockies were 50-85% below normal. Crops and livestock died and some areas became desert. Forest fires began over the Northwest and by autumn, 4,100,000 acres had been burned. A government policy called "Let Burn" was in effect for Yellowstone National Park. The result? Half of the park--2,100,000 acres were charred when a huge forest fire developed.

Example of Hortatory Text

Welahan, April 29, 2007

The school committee of SMAN 1 Welahan Jepara.

Dear sir,

We have writing this letter to you because we are concerned about education quality of SMAN 1 Welahan.

To improve the students’ quality in language learning, we need language laboratory.

As we know, two of the subjects given on the national final examination are Bahasa Indonesia and English. Especially on English, there is listening comprehension section on the test. Students should be prepared to do listening test and one of the instruments needed is language laboratory.

Actually we have tape recorder to teach listening, but it is a matter of problem since the teacher must bring tape recorder, wire, cassette and other material from class to class. It wastes of energy and time. Teachers are busy on preparing instruments. If we have language laboratory, teacher can prepare the material of lesson without disturbing preparing the instruments.

Furthermore, language laboratory is not only used by English lesson, but also can be used by any language lessons. There are four language lessons in SMANELA, they are Bahasa Indonesia, English, Arabic and Bahasa Jawa. Those teachers can use language laboratory when teaching and it is very useful for students.

For the reason above, I urge the school commitee to build language laboratory.

That's our open letter, we need support and participation from all school component.

sincerelly yours

RISKY EDY NAWAWI ??

RISKY EDY NAWAWI

Apa artinya coba?

Sampai sekarang aku masih bingung dengan namaku sendiri. Kok namaku kayak nama cowok, padahal aku kan cewek? Orang yang cuma baca namaku tapi ga kenal ma aku pasti ngira aku cowok.. Huft.. Tapi, cewek yang namanya kayak cowok atau sebaliknya cowok yang namanya kayak cewek, katanya sih bakal jadi orang terkenal..

[Amin.. :D]

RISKY. Aku tanya mamaku, apa sih arti RISKY? Mamaku bilang artinya REZEKI. Tapi REZEKI itu kan RIZQI, bukan RISKY.. Aku coba buka kamus Bahasa Inggris. Oh my God ! RISKY is the same with DANGEROUS yang berarti BERBAHAYA. Selidik punya selidik, ternyata dulu papaku salah tulis waktu buatin aku akta kelahiran. Maunya sih nulis RIZQI, tapi yang ketulis malah RISKY..

EDY. Ini nama belakang papa dan dijadikan nama tengahku. EDY kan nama orang Jawa, nah papaku? bukan orang Jawa tuh. Ga tau deh gimana ceritanya papaku bisa menyandang nama belakang EDY. Kata bu guru bahasa Jawa, EDI artinya BAGUS, INDAH, tapi EDY sama EDI kan beda. Yang satu belakangnya 'Y' yang satu 'I'. Huft..

NAWAWI.

Amin..

Beauty and the Beast

Orientation
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Beauty. She lived with her father and her sisters in a small village.
Beauty was a beautiful girl. She was also hard-working. She always helped her father on the farm.

Complication
One day, her father set out for the city. He saw an old castle and went in. No-one was in but there was food on the table. Then he walked around the castle. He picked a rose from garden for Beauty. Suddenly an angry Beast appeared. He wanted to kill Beauty’s father unless Beauty was brought to him.
Beauty’s father told her daughters what had happened. Beauty’s sisters ordered her to see the Beast.
Beauty went to see the Beast and had to stay at the castle. She felt scared, lonely and sad. She tried to run away but was stopped by the Beast. The Beast treated Beauty well. Soon, Beauty began to like the Beast.
One day, through the Beast’s magic mirror, Beauty saw that her father was sick. The Beast allowed her to go home. Her father was happy to see her.

Resolution
One night, Beauty had a dream. A fairly told her that the Beast was sick.
Beauty hurried back and saw the Beast dying. She began to cry. Tears fell onto the Beast. Suddenly, the Beast changed into handsome prince.
Beauty and the Beast got married and lived happily ever after.

Moral Value
Speaking as broadly as possible, theme is what your story is really about. Not what it seems to be about - ‘a pretty girl falls in love with a hideous monster’- but what it’s really about. Theme is the relevance of your story to your readers’ real lives, a truth they can take away and ponder.

The obvious theme/moral of Beauty and the Beast story is not to judge people based upon looks and first impressions. The fallacy is revealed when the truer, inner beauty of the Beast is uncovered through love, patience, and sacrifice.

Because Of You by Keith Martin

V: If ever you wondered if you touched my soul, yes you do.

Since I met you I'm not the same. You bring life to everything I

do. Just the way you say hello. With one touch I can't let go.

Never thought I'd fall in love with you.

Ch: Because of you. My life has changed. Thank you for the love

and the joy you bring. Because of you I feel no shame. I'll tell

the world it's because of you.

V: Sometimes I get lonely and all I gotta do is think of you. You

captured something inside of me. You make all of my dreams

come true. It's not enough that you love me for me. You reached

inside and touched me internally. I love you best explains how

I feel for you.

Ch: Because of you. My life has changed. Thank you for the love

and the joy you bring. Because of you I feel no shame. I'll tell

the world it's because of you.

Br: The magic in your eyes, true love I can't deny. When you hold

me I just lose control. I want you to know that I'm never letting

go. You mean so much to me, I want the world to see it's

because of you.

Ch: Because of you. My life has changed. Thank you for the love

and the joy you bring. Because of you I feel no shame. I'll tell

the world it's because of you. My life has changed. Thank you for the love and

joy you bring. Because of you I feel no shame. I'll tell the world it's because

of you
